Updated: 19-year-old shooting victim dies in west Evanston

Update, 11:30 p.m.:

The shooting victim is Evanston resident Justin Murray, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. He was pronounced dead at 6:58 p.m.

Update, 9:15 p.m.:

A spokesman said the Cook County medical examiner’s office has not been informed of the man’s death. The victim’s next of kin has not yet been notified, the spokesman said.

Original story:

A 19-year-old Evanston man died after being shot tonight near Evanston Township High School in west Evanston.

The shooting occurred at 6:15 p.m. in the 1800 block of Brown Avenue, according to a news release. While investigating reports of shots fired on Brown Avenue, Evanston Police found the 19-year-old wounded. The man was transported to Evanston/North Shore University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police are investigating the case, and there are no suspects currently in custody.
