Church burglarized

An unknown person broke into Lake Street Church, 607 Lake St., sometime between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Sunday.

Evanston Police Department officers spoke with an employee at the church Monday, who said the unknown burglar broke through the interior kitchen door using brute force before proceeding to an interior office and breaking into it as well, Cmdr. Tom Guenther said.

Once inside the office, the unknown person ransacked two file cabinets and stole $5 in petty cash. The employee told police no other items were missing.

The person “could’ve gone to prison for many years for $5,” Guenther said.

Four arrested in street brawl

Four people – including two Evanston Township High School students – were arrested Monday for fighting near the intersection of Church Street and Dodge Avenue, Guenther said.

One of the other two people arrested was the mother of one of the ETHS students, who obstructed police when she tried to intervene with the arrest of her son.

The fourth person taken into custody was a 32-year-old man.

All four were charged with mob action for failing to disperse when ordered by police.
